You don’t have to dream of a time when you can be creating and performing your art, students at the Performing and Visual Arts Magnet school @ Wiley H. Bates Middle School are a community of artists realizing those dreams.

Are You a……………………..

Painter?

Musician?

Singer?

Dancer?

Performer?

Spend the day with other artists that have the same interests as you!

At the PVA you will spend the day with other artists – painters, jazz musicians, singers, dancers, and performers – that have the same interests as you! Artists at the Performing and Visual Arts program @ Bates Middle School have extra time in their arts classes. They have digital media classes where they record music, make movies, and create computer generated art. They learn about the languages and arts of many cultures such as Italian, through the study of the music, dance, and visual arts of the Italian Renaissance. They paint, sculpt, sing, dance, and play instruments with students like you.

While the PVA program focuses on the arts, students also receive a rigorous academic instruction in Mathematics, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies and World & Classical Languages. Upon completion of three years at Wiley H. Bates Middle School many students leave with High School credit in Mathematics and World and Classical Languages and are prepared to move on to IB, STEM or other magnet programs.

Local and visiting Artists in Residence and highly qualified AACPS arts instructors provide extensive studio instruction during the extended day, Performance Plus sessions. Students receive elective credit as part of their mandatory participation in Performance Plus. These classes occur on Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30pm – 4:30 pm.

Performing and Visual Arts Magnet students attend eight Saturday sessions as part of their program. During Saturdays in the Arts, they receive hands on and behind the scenes instruction as they travel to museums and performances around the Annapolis-Baltimore-Washington, DC area.

The PVA program is open to students in the southern feeder region of Anne Arundel County. There is no cost for the program and transportation is provided from consolidated bus stops.
