PVA PLUS!
Course Overview
All students in the Performing and Visual Arts Magnet Program enroll in a PVA PLUS! Course each year which includes all Tu/Th After School Performance Plus classes, Saturday-in-the Arts sessions, and two major PVA winter and spring concerts/performances/events. Our PVA PLUS! Course is not optional; it is an integral part of the whole PVA student experience. The PVA PLUS! Course will run all year and will be graded. The After School Performance Plus classes and Saturday sessions are designed to enrich the PVA students’ learning through a) interaction with professional artists, b) participation in integrated cultural arts activities, and c) patron participation at professional arts events. By design, all PVA students will experience a wide variety of arts forms in and beyond their prime arts interest. We are excited to offer this PVA PLUS! Course as part of our AACPS PVA middle school magnet program.

Student Accountability in PVA PLUS!
We expect each PVA student to be fully engaged in all aspects of the PVA PLUS! Course. Each 9-week marking period will include 1-2 Saturday Sessions and multiple Tu/Th Performance Plus classes. Some marking periods will include the winter or spring mandatory PVA concert/performance/event. During each 9-week marking period students will receive 5-7 grades based on teacher-set expectations and student outcomes related to both the Saturday sessions, Tu/Th Performance Plus class content, or PVA events. Attendance is mandatory and will be taken in each meeting of the PVA PLUS! Course. All PVA PLUS! Course assignments and marking period grading schema will be posted to both the Bates Blackboard the Batesmiddle.org website as they are given to the students during each quarter.
Grading Policy for PVA PLUS! Course per 9-wk
Marking Period (MP)
Saturday in the Arts Session – Each session’s grade will count as 15 % of total MP grade
Saturday_Session_Makeup_Assignment
Major PVA Concert/Performance/Event – Each will count as 15% of total MP grade [NOTE: Not all MP’s have a Major Event.]
Performance Plus! – Tu/Th Class grades will complete the remaining 55-70% of total MP grade
